What does your "Health Ministry" do for you?

Did you know we provide?

Monthly "Blood Pressure" screenings are offered the first Sunday of each month in the "Bishop’s Parlor” from 8:45 am to 10:00 am.  Our medical professionals are eager to assist our members in promoting a healthy lifestyle.

"Caring Calls" are made to all members before and after any scheduled surgeries, hospitalizations, to all "new" moms and needs made known through our prayer requests cards by Gene Schofield, RN.  We have a team of health care professionals that are active in various specialties within the medical field.  As the specialty need arises, these professionals are called upon by Gene to provide health counsel to the member in need.

“Cathedral Prayer Request Ministry”  People with prayer needs are welcome to make these known to our pastoral staff.  Special prayer request cards are available on the “Alms Box” at the rear of the Nave.  These prayer requests are monitored and updated weekly by our health ministry.

Bereavement Care is provided to all church members who have lost an immediate family member for the first year of grief.  This loving support is done through special cards, letters, and appropriate "Care Notes" every three months when appropriate.

Health Education is provided through various modalities.  Monthly “Health Hints” are written by Gene Schofield, RN on health topics of concern to our parishioners.  A "Health and Healing" reference library is presently located in the health ministry office in the Chapter House.  Access is available on Wednesdays or by request.  Educational materials, specific to our monthly health topic, are also located at the “Educational Corner” in our Narthex.

"Home Bound Ministry"   Trained lay visitors reach out to our members who are no longer able to participate in the activities of our church due to medically related issues.  What a wonderful blessing it is to visit these members on a regular basis and have them share with you their spiritual journey and wisdom.  If you know of any parishioner that is “Home Bound” and not receiving visits please call the Cathedral office 236-4059 and leave a message for the “Health Ministry.”

“Lay Eucharistic Visitors” are licensed by the Bishop to serve Holy Communion to parishioners unable to attend services due to short or long term medical related issues.

“Outreach Ministry” to the poor and  “Homeless” at “Downtown Daily Bread” began in 2001 when our parish nurse and coordinator felt a need to minister to their physical needs.  Monthly we provide blood pressure screenings, health counsel and hygiene items.

“Active Aging Socials” are held annually at the Cathedral for persons 55 and older.  This gives our “Home Bound” parishioners an opportunity to gather with their friends. Delicious food and enjoyable entertainment are provided.
