Isaiah writes that the heavenly host spends its time singing praises to God. Surely, music is the most powerful form of spiritual expression. At St. Stephen’s, every one of every age and every ability is warmly welcomed to participate in the musical program. The choirs are designed to be a flexible and full of musical variety as possible.
The Cathedral Choir sings every Sunday and for all special services. They meet for rehearsal on Thursday evenings from 7 -8:30 PM in the Choir Room. Their dedication and talent enhances and nurtures the community’s worship and helps each member to grow both spiritually and musically.
Second Time Around Choir
The Second Time Around Choir is a group of people who join the choir to sing an anthem on the second Sunday of each month. They meet in the Choir Room at 9:15 that day to learn an anthem to sing for the 10:15 Eucharist. This more relaxed schedule enables people to participate who cannot commit to weekly participation.
The Festival Choir is a group that will sing five times each year on the great festivals of the church: Christmas, Epiphany, Easter, Pentecost, and All Saints Day. For each of those festivals of the liturgical year, we ask those who would like to participate to come to two choir rehearsals immediately preceding the festival. The choir rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7- 8:30 PM. Entrance is from the side door in the Bishops’ Garden. Please call the church office or send email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Choral Evensong is a lovely and traditional Anglican service that includes hymns, psalms, canticles, and prayers. The Evensong services are designed and scheduled to allow singers, clergy, and parishioners from the area to participate. Rehearsals are the two Monday evenings preceding each evensong.
